Firebird Border Penstemon
Penstemon ‘Firebird’
Penstemon 'Firebird' (syn. Penstemon gloxinioides 'Firebird', 'Schonholzeri') is a striking, long-blooming perennial prized for its large, trumpet-shaped, vivid cherry-red flowers. This compact hybrid penstemon forms an upright, bushy clump of slender, lance-shaped, glossy, medium green leaves. From late spring through summer, and often into early fall, it produces sturdy spikes bearing an abundance of showy, tubular, two-lipped flowers in a brilliant, fiery cherry-red hue, creating a vivid, eye-catching display that attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Exceptionally drought-tolerant, heat-tolerant, and deer-resistant, it is an outstanding choice for sunny borders, perennial beds, rock gardens, Mediterranean gardens, containers, and pollinator gardens.
