A plant does not have to be extremely rare to be difficult to source.

Sometimes the cultivar exists but is only grown in small quantities. Sometimes you need an unusual size. Sometimes you need 20 matching plants instead of one.

We commonly help source:

How Plant Sourcing Works

1. Tell Us What You Need

Send us as much information as you have:

• Botanical or common name

• Cultivar

• Desired size

• Quantity

• Delivery ZIP code

• Required timeline

• Photos or references when helpful

If you have a landscape plant schedule, you can send that instead.

2. We Review the Request

Before starting a paid search, we determine whether the request is appropriate for our Plant Manager Service.

Some plants may already be available through our regular inventory or known suppliers and may not require an extended sourcing search.

3. We Search Our Grower Network

For specialty requests, we research relevant growers, nursery suppliers, specialty producers, and upcoming availability.

Depending on the plant, this may involve confirming cultivar identity, container size, quantity, condition, production timelines, and logistics.

4. We Present the Available Options

If we locate suitable material, we provide the available size, quantity, plant pricing, expected timing, and delivery information.

If the exact plant is unavailable, we may also identify realistic alternatives when appropriate.

5. You Decide

Finding a plant does not obligate you to purchase it.

If you decide to proceed, we coordinate the plant order and delivery based on the quoted terms.

Plant Sourcing Fees

Simple availability questions do not automatically require a sourcing fee.

For rare, specialty, or research-intensive requests, our Plant Manager Service may require a professional sourcing fee.

Typical sourcing fees range from:

$150–$500 per cultivar

The fee depends on the rarity of the plant, research required, number of growers contacted, verification needs, and expected coordination.

The sourcing fee covers our professional research, outreach, verification, and coordination.

It is separate from the price of the plant and delivery.

Payment for sourcing does not guarantee that a specific plant will ultimately be available.

How Long Does Plant Sourcing Take?

Some plants can be located quickly.

Others may require waiting for the next production cycle.

For difficult specialty requests, sourcing may take anywhere from several weeks to several months.

Timing depends on the plant, cultivar, requested size, quantity, season, grower production, and your flexibility.

If you have a firm project deadline, tell us at the beginning of the search.

What Happens If the Exact Plant Cannot Be Found?

Sometimes the answer is simply that the plant is not currently available.

When useful, we may suggest:

• A different container size

• A smaller plant that can be grown on

• A closely related cultivar

• A plant with similar landscape characteristics

• Upcoming seasonal availability

• Contract growing for qualifying projects

We will not substitute a different plant without your approval.

Plant Sourcing vs. Regular Plant Availability

You do not need to pay a Plant Manager fee every time something on our website is out of stock.

If you are simply checking whether a common plant is available, contact us first.

The Plant Manager Service is intended for requests that require additional research, specialty grower outreach, verification, or ongoing sourcing work.
