Quercus engelmannii

The Engelmann Oak is a graceful, open-branched evergreen oak native to Southern California, prized for its soft, blue-green foliage and broad, spreading canopy. While not native to Northern California, it is well-adapted to similar Mediterranean climates in the warmer, drier parts of the Bay Area.

  • Develops a very broad, spreading, and picturesque canopy with age, often wider than it is tall, providing excellent, filtered shade.

  • Highly drought-tolerant once established, thriving in hot, dry, sunny locations with deep, infrequent watering.

  • A stately and beautiful specimen tree for large properties, parks, or golf courses where its magnificent form can be fully appreciated.
