Shrimp Plant

Justicia brandegeana、Beloperone guttata

Justicia brandegeana is a charming, tropical evergreen shrub prized for its unique, drooping flower spikes of overlapping, coppery-pink to reddish-brown bracts that resemble the shape of a shrimp. Native to Mexico, this fast-growing, sprawling shrub forms a rounded, bushy mound of oval, light to medium green, glossy leaves. From spring through fall, and nearly year-round in frost-free climates, it produces arching, terminal spikes of small, two-lipped, white flowers that emerge from the colorful, overlapping, shrimp-like bracts, creating a long-lasting, whimsical display that attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Exceptionally easy to grow, adaptable, and tolerant of a range of conditions, it is an outstanding choice for tropical borders, containers, hanging baskets, and as a colorful accent in sunny to partially shaded gardens.
