Canyon Prince Lyme Grass
Leymus condensatus ‘Canyon Prince’
Leymus condensatus 'Canyon Prince' is a striking, evergreen perennial grass prized for its bold, architectural form and dramatic, silver-blue foliage. Native to California's Channel Islands, this robust, clumping grass (spreading by rhizomes) forms an open, fountain-like mound of stiff, upright to arching, broad, silvery-blue to icy blue leaves that provide year-round color and texture. In summer, it produces tall, sturdy flower spikes (1-2 ft above the foliage) bearing buff to tan, wheat-like seed heads that add vertical interest and attract birds. Exceptionally drought-tolerant once established, heat tolerant, and adaptable to a range of well-drained soils (including coastal conditions), it is an outstanding choice for xeriscape gardens, erosion control on slopes, mass plantings, coastal gardens, and as a dramatic focal point in water-wise landscapes. Note: This grass spreads vigorously by rhizomes; containment may be necessary in smaller gardens.
