Chanticleer Callery Pear
Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’
Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' is a popular, ornamental deciduous tree prized for its narrow, columnar form, profuse white spring flowers, and stunning fall color. This thornless cultivar produces an abundance of single, pure white flowers in dense clusters in early spring, before the leaves emerge, creating a spectacular, cloud-like display. The flowers are followed by small, hard, brownish-red, pea-sized fruits that persist into winter, attracting birds. The glossy, dark green, oval leaves are disease-resistant and turn brilliant shades of red, purple, and orange in autumn, providing a long season of color. With its strong, upright, pyramidal to columnar habit, excellent cold hardiness, and tolerance for urban conditions, it is an outstanding choice for street plantings, narrow spaces, specimen trees, and as a screen or alley tree.
