Bramble Berry, Creeping Raspberry

Rubus calycinoides, R. pentalobus ‘Emerald Carpet’

Rubus calycinoides (syn. R. pentalobus 'Emerald Carpet'), commonly known as Creeping Raspberry or Bramble, is a revolutionary, evergreen ground cover prized for its dense, weed-suppressing habit, attractive crinkled foliage, and edible orange berries. Native to Taiwan, this prostrate shrub forms a slowly creeping, dense carpet of glossy, deep green, rounded, lobed leaves that turn attractive rusty-maroon tones in cool weather. In spring and summer, it produces small, white flowers that are followed by edible, bright orange berries in autumn, which are attractive to birds. Exceptionally drought-tolerant once established, deer-resistant, and adaptable to a range of light conditions, it is an outstanding choice for slopes, erosion control, rock gardens, between stepping stones, and as a low-maintenance, no-mow ground cover.
