Description

Hydrangea quercifolia 'Munchkin' is a charming, compact, deciduous shrub prized for its showy, elongated, cone-shaped flower clusters and its handsome, oak-like foliage. This dwarf selection of the native Oakleaf Hydrangea forms a dense, rounded mound of deeply lobed, dark green leaves that turn rich mahogany-red to burgundy in autumn. From late spring through summer, it produces an abundance of 6-inch, upright panicles of white flowers that gradually age to soft pink and finally to a lasting tan-brown, persisting on the plant well into winter. The blooms are held on sturdy, woody stems, and the plant blooms on old wood. Its exfoliating, cinnamon-brown bark provides additional winter interest. An outstanding choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, foundation plantings, and containers.
