Bay Area–Based Nursery

We specialize in plants grown and delivered in their original pots and soil.
Because of their size and weight, our plants are not suitable for long-distance shipping and are delivered locally to ensure health and quality.

While delivery is limited to our local service area, we’re happy to support garden design and plant selection remotely.

For local plant professionals, we’re always glad to connect and explore ways to support your customers.

The Jackfruit is a true titan of the plant kingdom, producing the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. This magnificent evergreen tree is a spectacle of nature, with massive, bumpy, green fruits emerging directly from its trunk and main branches. Inside, the golden-yellow, rubbery fruit pods offer a uniquely versatile culinary experience: when ripe, they are intensely sweet and aromatic, perfect for fresh eating or desserts; when unripe, their meat-like texture makes them a phenomenal plant-based meat substitute for curries and savory dishes. For those with ample space in a frost-free climate, growing a jackfruit tree is a commitment to cultivating a piece of tropical wonder.

  • Produces the world's largest tree-borne fruit, often weighing 10-50 pounds or more.

  • Exhibits a unique growth habit called "cauliflory," with fruits growing directly on the trunk and main branches.

  • Ripe fruit has sweet, aromatic, golden-yellow flesh pods with a flavor described as a blend of banana, pineapple, and mango.

  • Unripe (young) jackfruit has a neutral, fibrous texture that excellently mimics pulled pork or chicken in savory dishes.

  • A fast-growing, massive evergreen tree that requires significant space and a consistently warm, tropical climate.

  • Self-pollinating and bears fruit within 3-4 years if grafted.

Flavor Profile (Ripe Fruit):

  • Flavor: Intensely sweet and tropical, with distinct notes of banana, pineapple, and bubblegum.

  • Texture: The edible pods are crisp yet rubbery, surrounding large, starchy seeds.

  • Best Uses: Ripe: Eaten fresh, in smoothies, ice cream, or desserts. Unripe (Young): The premier plant-based "meat" for vegan curries, tacos, barbecue sandwiches, and stews.

Knowing how we measure the size?

Knowing how we measure the size?

When browsing our plants, you may notice size terms such as Gallon, Multi, or Stand. These describe how a plant is grown, containerized, or structured at the time of sale — not just its height. Understanding these terms will help you choose the right plant for your space and expectations.

🌱 Gallon Size (Container Size)

Gallon refers to the size of the nursery container the plant is currently growing in (e.g. 1 Gallon, 5 Gallon, 15 Gallon).

  • A larger gallon size generally means:

    • A more established root system

    • A sturdier plant

    • Faster visual impact after planting

  • Example:

    • 5 Gallon: Ideal for residential gardens, easy to handle, good balance of value and maturity

    • 15 Gallon: More mature, provides quicker results in the landscape

Note: Gallon size does not guarantee a specific height, as growth varies by species.

🌳 Multi (Multi-Trunk / Multi-Branch Form)

Multi indicates the plant has multiple trunks or main stems growing from the base.

  • Commonly used for:

    • Ornamental trees

    • Feature plants

    • Japanese maples, olives, crepe myrtles, etc.

  • Why choose Multi:

    • Fuller, more sculptural appearance

    • Strong visual presence even at younger ages

    • Popular for design-focused landscapes

🌲 Stand (Single-Trunk / Standard Form)

Stand (short for Standard) refers to a single, dominant trunk with a raised or naturally formed canopy.

  • Commonly used for:

    • Shade trees

    • Street trees

    • Orchard and structural plantings

  • Why choose Stand:

    • Clean, classic tree form

    • Easier clearance for walkways and lawns

    • Preferred for long-term structure and uniformity

🌿 Choosing the Right Size

  • If you want instant impact → larger Gallon, Multi form

  • If you want long-term structure → Stand form

  • If you want flexibility and value → mid-size Gallon containers

If you’re unsure which size or form fits your project, our team is happy to help you select the best option based on your space, timeline, and design goals.

FAQs

Q: How do I handle the sticky latex when cutting it?
A: Coat your knife, hands, and cutting surface with cooking oil before cutting. The latex is stubborn but soluble in oil. Working with chilled fruit can also reduce latex flow.

Q: How much space does the tree need?
A: A tremendous amount. A mature jackfruit tree can reach 30-60 feet tall and nearly as wide. It is not suitable for small yards. Dwarf varieties are available but still require significant space.

Q: Can I grow it from a seed from a fruit I bought?
A: Yes, but seed-grown trees can take 5-8 years to fruit, and fruit quality is unpredictable. For earlier fruiting and guaranteed quality (especially for varieties with firm, "less stinky" flesh), purchase a grafted tree from a specialty nursery.

Q: Does it really smell bad?
A: The aroma of a ripe, uncut jackfruit is very strong and sweet, which some people love and others find overpowering. The smell intensifies as it ripens. Newer varieties are bred to have a milder aroma. The unripe fruit used for cooking has little to no strong smell.
