Description

Tiger Eye Flowering Maple is a fast-growing, graceful evergreen shrub that adds a touch of exotic elegance and vibrant color to the garden for months on end. It produces a profusion of nodding, bell-shaped flowers in a striking salmon-orange hue, each petal delicately veined with a deeper red. The blooms dangle charmingly from slender stalks amidst the handsome, maple-like green foliage. With a long flowering season from spring through fall, and a vigorous, slightly arching habit, it makes a superb specimen for a sunny, sheltered spot, or a stunning patio container plant.

Faqs

Q: Is it hardy in the Bay Area (Zone 9a)?
A: In the warmest, most frost-free microclimates near the coast, it can be grown as a perennial shrub. Inland areas that experience frost should treat it as an annual or grow it in a container that can be brought indoors or into a greenhouse during winter.

Q: How should it be pruned?
A: Prune in late winter or early spring to control size and shape, and to remove any frost-damaged growth. It blooms on new wood, so pruning encourages fresh growth and more flowers. It can also be pinched during the growing season to promote bushiness.
