Description

Midnight Lily of the Nile is a captivating selection that offers some of the deepest, richest blue flowers in the agapanthus palette. Its flower heads are a saturated, velvety navy blue to indigo, appearing almost black in certain lights. The blooms stand out dramatically against the green foliage and are held on sturdy, dark stems. Slightly taller than some varieties, it makes a bold, vertical statement in the summer border and pairs beautifully with white, silver, or yellow flowering plants.

  • Deepest Navy Blue Flowers: Renowned for its intense, dark blue to violet-blue flower heads that provide a rich, sophisticated color.

  • Tall, Sturdy Flower Stems: Produces strong, upright scapes that hold the substantial flower heads well above the foliage without staking.

  • Vigorous Grower with Good Form: Forms a robust, symmetrical clump of foliage and reliably produces multiple flower spikes per clump.

  • Sun-Loving & Drought Tolerant: Performs best in full sun, where it will produce the maximum number of those coveted dark blooms.

  • Dramatic Garden Accent: Perfect for creating a focal point of deep color, especially effective in moon gardens or modern plantings.

Faqs

Q: Does the flower color change?
A: The color is darkest when the buds first open. As the individual florets age, they may lighten slightly to a more medium blue. The overall effect of the flower head remains very dark.

Q: Is it evergreen in Zone 9a?
A: Yes, in the mild winters of Zone 9a, it should remain evergreen. Provide a mulch in colder microclimates for extra root protection if a hard freeze is forecast.
