Description

Black Bamboo is one of the most striking and sought-after bamboos for its dramatic, polished jet-black to deep purple culms that emerge green and mature to dark color. It creates an unparalleled architectural and exotic effect. Like Golden Bamboo, it is a RUNNING type and requires strict containment.

  • Prized for its stunning dark, near-black mature culms that create a bold, sculptural statement in the landscape.

  • New culms emerge green, gradually developing their dark color over 2-3 years in full sun.

  • Running (invasive) bamboo. Must be planted with a deep root barrier to prevent aggressive spread.

  • Best used as a contained specimen or screen where its unique color can be the focal point.
