Description

The Calathea Rattlesnake is a mesmerizing prayer plant known for its strikingly patterned, elongated foliage. Each wavy, lance-shaped leaf is a deep olive green adorned with darker, elliptical markings that resemble the patterns on a rattlesnake, complemented by rich purple-red undersides. Like all prayer plants, its leaves perform a graceful nyctinastic movement, folding upward at night as if in prayer. It adds dynamic, living art to any room and thrives in the consistent warmth and humidity it craves.

  • Distinctive Snake-Skin Patterning: Features long, wavy leaves with alternating dark green blotches and a feathered edge, resembling reptile skin.

  • Dramatic Purple Undersides: The reverse side of each leaf is a vivid, contrasting purple-maroon.

  • Prayer Plant Movement: Leaves rise and close vertically each evening in a captivating display.

  • Requires High Humidity & Consistency: Thrives in steamy bathrooms, terrariums, or with a humidifier; dislikes dry air and cold drafts.

  • Prefers Filtered Water: Sensitive to chemicals in tap water; use distilled, rainwater, or filtered water to prevent brown leaf tips.
