Description

Bonanza Camellia is a dwarf, compact Sasanqua that packs a big punch with its showy, semi-double to peony-form, bright rose-red flowers. It blooms very early, often starting in early fall, and continues for an extended period. Despite its small size, it is covered in blooms. Its slow growth and manageable stature make it perfect for small gardens, foundation plantings, low hedges, or prominent container culture.

  • Dwarf & Compact Habit: A true dwarf, slowly maturing to only 4-5 feet tall and wide, perfect for limited spaces.

  • Early & Prolific Bloomer: One of the earliest to flower, often beginning in September/October and lasting for months.

  • Bright Rose-Red Peony-Form Blooms: Produces vibrant, medium-sized, full flowers that stand out against the foliage.

  • Ideal for Small Gardens & Containers: Its size and floral show make it a top choice for patios, entryways, and mixed borders.

  • Low Maintenance: Requires minimal pruning to maintain its neat, rounded shape.

Faqs

Q: Can it take full sun?
A: It tolerates sun well for a camellia, but in hot inland areas, afternoon shade is still recommended to prevent stress and prolong flower life. Morning sun is ideal.

Q: How do I encourage more blooms on such a small plant?
A: Ensure it is planted in well-drained, acidic soil and receives adequate water during bud formation in late summer. A light application of acid-loving plant fertilizer after flowering can also support bloom production.
