Description

The European Fan Palm is a tough, cold-hardy, and charming small palm, perfect for adding Mediterranean flair to gardens and patios. It is a clumping, multi-trunked palm with stiff, blue-green to silver-green, fan-shaped leaves that have sharply spined leaf stems. Its compact, shrubby size and remarkable resilience to drought, heat, and cold make it an ideal choice for small gardens, rockeries, or container cultivation where a hardy, architectural statement is desired.

  • Cold Hardy & Drought Tolerant: One of the most cold-tolerant palms, surviving brief dips to 5°F (-15°C) when established, and highly drought-resistant.

  • Compact, Clumping Habit: Forms a dense, bushy clump of multiple trunks, rarely exceeding 10-15 feet tall.

  • Stiff, Blue-Green Fan Leaves: Features attractive, stiff, fan-shaped leaves on spiny petioles.

  • Slow-Growing & Low Maintenance: Requires minimal care once established; thrives in full sun to partial shade.

  • Perfect for Small Spaces & Containers: Its manageable size makes it excellent for courtyards, patios, or as a focal point in a mixed border.
