Description

The Blue Italian Cypress offers the same legendary, narrow columnar form as the classic variety but with the added allure of silvery-blue to blue-green foliage. This color provides a cooler, more striking visual impact against warm-toned architecture or in mixed plantings. Slightly more vigorous and broader than the green type, it remains a drought-tolerant, architectural staple for creating dramatic vertical lines with a contemporary color twist.

  • Features the same strict, narrow columnar habit but with attractive silvery-blue to blue-gray foliage.

  • Often grows slightly faster and a bit wider than the green species.

  • Provides excellent color contrast in the landscape.

  • Shares the same cultural needs: full sun, excellent drainage, and drought tolerance.

  • Subject to the same pests and diseases (especially cypress canker).

  • Used identically to the green form for screening, framing, and formal accents.

Faqs

Q: Is it more or less hardy than the green type?A:Hardiness is generally the same(typically USDA Zones 7-10). The blue color may be slightly more susceptible to winter bronzing or scorch in harsh, exposed sites, but this is minor. The primary cultural challenge for both is disease, not cold.
