Escallonia bifida, commonly known as White Escallonia or Cloven Gum Box, is a bushy, upright evergreen shrub prized for its masses of pure white flowers and glossy, dark green foliage. Native to South America (southern Brazil and Uruguay), this vigorous grower produces rounded terminal panicles of small, tubular white flowers with spreading petals, blooming from late summer through autumn and often into winter in mild climates . The leaves are obovate to lance-shaped, finely toothed, glossy and bright green above, with small resinous dots beneath. With its dense, upright habit, adaptability to coastal conditions, and tolerance for heat and drought, it is an excellent choice for creating a flowering hedge, privacy screen, or as a striking specimen plant.
