Description

Euphorbia milii, commonly known as Crown of Thorns, is a durable, ever-blooming succulent shrub prized for its nearly continuous display of colorful bracts and its remarkable tolerance for heat, drought, and neglect. Native to Madagascar, this thorny plant features thick, gray-green, spiny stems and small, bright green leaves that cluster near the growing tips. From spring through fall, and often year-round in warm climates, it produces an abundance of small, paired, colorful bracts in a range of vibrant hues, surrounding tiny, inconspicuous true flowers. Exceptionally long-blooming, drought-tolerant, and low-maintenance, it is an outstanding choice for containers, sunny borders, rock gardens, and as a striking indoor plant.

Faqs

Q: What flower colors are available?
A: Crown of Thorns is available in Pink, Red, White, and Yellow. The colorful "flowers" are actually bracts that surround the tiny true flowers.

Q: How long does it bloom?
A: It has an exceptionally long bloom season, typically from spring through fall, and can bloom nearly year-round in warm, frost-free climates.

Q: How large does it get?
A: It is a slow-growing shrub, typically reaching 2-3 feet in height and 1-2 feet in spread, though it can grow taller (up to 6 feet) in ideal conditions over many years.

Q: Is it drought tolerant?
A: Yes, it is extremely drought tolerant and prefers well-drained soil. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure.

Q: Does it have thorns?
A: Yes, it has sharp, prominent thorns along its stems, which give it the name "Crown of Thorns." Wear gloves when handling and plant away from high-traffic areas.

Q: Is it toxic?
A: Yes, like all Euphorbias, it contains a milky sap that is a skin and eye irritant and toxic if ingested. Keep it away from children and pets.
