Description

The Silver Dollar Gum is a fast-growing, iconic Australian tree renowned for its beautiful, rounded, blue-green to silvery adult leaves. These fragrant leaves are prized in floral arrangements. The tree develops an open, spreading canopy with attractive, mottled bark. It’s an excellent, quick-growing shade tree for large, dry gardens, but its size and vigorous roots demand ample space.

  • Grown for its beautiful, nearly circular, blue-green to silvery-gray adult leaves that are highly aromatic and excellent for cut foliage.

  • A fast-growing tree that quickly provides light, dappled shade with its open, spreading canopy.

  • Exceptionally drought and heat tolerant once established, thriving with little to no summer water in well-drained soil.

  • Develops attractive mottled bark of gray, cream, and brown as it matures.

  • Note: Like many eucalypts, it can be messy, dropping leaves, bark, and branches. It needs a large space away from structures due to its size and vigorous root system.

Faqs

Q: Is it suitable for a small yard?
A: No. It is a large tree (30-50 ft+ tall and wide) with an extensive root system. It is best for parks, large estates, or very spacious rural properties.

Q: Can I keep it small by pruning?
A: Eucalypts do not respond well to heavy topping or reduction pruning. It can be coppiced (cut to the ground) to maintain a multi-stemmed shrub for foliage, but this sacrifices the tree form. Choose a dwarf eucalyptus cultivar if size is a concern.
