Description

The standard "Fruitless Olive" is a common, non-fruiting cultivar of the European olive. It offers the classic, gnarled silhouette and silvery foliage without the heavy fruit set. It is a versatile, drought-tolerant tree that can be used as a large shrub, multi-trunk specimen, or pruned into a single-trunk street tree.

  • The go-to non-fruiting olive for a medium to large-sized tree with the authentic, twisted form and silvery leaf color.

  • Highly adaptable; can be purchased as a multi-trunk shrub or trained as a single-trunk tree. Responds well to pruning and shaping.

  • Provides excellent drought tolerance and thrives in hot, sunny locations with well-drained soil.

  • A versatile choice for Mediterranean landscapes, as a patio shade tree (with pruning), or as an architectural accent.

Faqs

Q: Is it completely fruitless?
A: While vastly less productive than fruiting varieties, it is not always 100% sterile. Occasional, sparse fruit may appear, especially in warm climates, but it is not a problem compared to a fruiting tree.

Q: What’s the difference between this and ‘Swan Hill’?
A: ‘Swan Hill’ is a patented, guaranteed sterile (fruitless & pollenless) cultivar. The generic ‘Fruitless Olive’ is a non-patented, mostly sterile clone that may produce occasional pollen and negligible fruit. ‘Swan Hill’ is cleaner and more predictable.
