Faqs

Is Frostproof Gardenia actually cold hardy?
It’s one of the more cold-tolerant gardenias and is commonly grown in Zone 7 and warmer with basic winter protection.

Does it bloom more than once?
You’ll usually get the main bloom in early summer, and it can produce additional flowers later in the season when conditions are good.

Can I grow it in a pot?
Yes. Use a pot with strong drainage and an acidic potting mix. Container plants need more consistent watering and may need winter protection in colder areas.

How much sun does it need?
Full sun to partial sun works well. Morning sun with afternoon shade is often ideal in hotter spots.

Why are my gardenia leaves turning yellow?
Yellow leaves can come from overwatering, poor drainage, or soil that isn’t acidic enough. Iron deficiency is common in alkaline soil; adjusting pH and feeding helps.

Is it deer resistant?
Gardenias are not a favorite for many deer, but no plant is completely deer-proof. Use protection if deer pressure is high.
