Description

Geranium sanguineum is a beloved, long-blooming perennial ground cover prized for its vibrant magenta-purple flowers, fragrant foliage, and excellent fall color. This hardy, clump-forming plant spreads slowly by runners to form a dense, mounding mat of deeply lobed, dark green, aromatic leaves. From late spring through early fall, it produces an abundance of small, saucer-shaped, vivid magenta-purple flowers with prominent darker veins, creating a colorful, long-lasting display that attracts butterflies and other pollinators. In autumn, the foliage turns brilliant shades of deep red and burgundy, extending the season of interest. Exceptionally cold-hardy, adaptable to a range of light conditions, and deer resistant, it is an outstanding choice for ground cover, rock gardens, borders, slopes, and containers.
