Description

Coed Hebe is a reliable, compact evergreen shrub valued for its neat foliage and long-lasting summer flowers. It forms a dense, rounded mound of small, glossy, apple-green leaves that are closely set on reddish stems. From summer into fall, it produces upright spikes of lavender-purple flowers at the branch tips. This tough, low-maintenance plant is perfect for adding structure and late-season color to borders, low hedges, coastal gardens, or containers.

  • Long Summer to Fall Bloom: Produces spikes of lavender-purple flowers from midsummer well into autumn.

  • Dense, Compact Habit: Forms a very tidy, rounded, and low-growing shrub, typically reaching 2-3 feet tall and wide.

  • Glossy Evergreen Foliage: The small, bright green, closely-packed leaves provide year-round texture and interest.

  • Coastal & Drought Tolerant: Once established, it is highly tolerant of coastal winds, salt spray, and drought.

  • Low Maintenance: Requires minimal pruning. Simply deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage tidiness.

Q: How cold hardy is it?
A: It is hardy to around 20-25°F (USDA Zone 8b-9). In Zone 9a, it is generally reliable, but may suffer foliage damage in an unusually hard freeze. It recovers well in spring.
