Description

Henfield Brilliant Sunrose is a vibrant, low-growing evergreen shrub that creates a dazzling carpet of color in late spring to early summer. It is smothered in brilliant, single, orange-red flowers with golden-yellow centers, each bloom lasting just a day but produced in such profusion that the plant remains a solid mass of color for weeks. Its tiny, gray-green leaves form a dense, weed-suppressing mat. Exceptionally drought-tolerant, heat-loving, and low-maintenance, it is a perfect choice for sunny slopes, rock gardens, dry borders, or spilling over walls.

  • Vivid Orange-Red Spring Bloom: Produces an explosive display of single, bright orange-red flowers with yellow eyes over a period of several weeks.

  • Dense, Prostrate Groundcover: Forms a tight, low mat of fine, gray-green foliage, typically 6-12 inches tall and spreading 2-3 feet wide.

  • Extreme Drought & Heat Tolerance: Thrives in poor, dry, rocky soils and full, blazing sun with minimal water once established.

  • Very Low Maintenance: Requires no fertilizer and little to no pruning. Simply shear lightly after the main bloom to encourage tidiness and possible rebloom.

  • Perfect for Challenging Sites: Ideal for sunny slopes, xeriscapes, Mediterranean gardens, and between stepping stones.

Faqs

Q: Does it rebloom after the main flush?
A: It may produce a lighter, sporadic second flush of flowers in late summer, especially if sheared back lightly after the first major bloom. The primary, spectacular display is in late spring/early summer.

Q: What are its soil requirements?
A: It must have excellent drainage. It thrives in sandy, gravelly, or rocky soils. In heavy clay soils, it will likely succumb to root rot. Amend with plenty of grit or plant in a raised bed or atop a slope.
