Description

The Meiwa Kumquat is renowned as the ultimate fresh-eating variety, prized for its round shape, thick, super-sweet rind, and nearly seedless, low-acid pulp. It offers a uniquely sweet and balanced “pop-in-your-mouth“ experience, making it a favorite for children and those with a sweet tooth.

  • Produces attractive, round fruit with a thick, bright orange rind that is exceptionally sweet and fragrant.

  • Flesh is sweet with very little acidity, creating a harmonious, candy-like flavor when eaten whole with minimal tart contrast.

  • A self-pollinating, compact, evergreen shrub (though it may have some thorns) with dense, glossy foliage.

  • Fruit sweetness intensifies as the tree matures, rewarding gardeners with increasingly delicious harvests over the years.

  • Ripens in the winter and is considered one of the hardiest kumquat varieties.

  • The premier choice for fresh, out-of-hand eating, and also excellent for sweet marmalades, candying, or as a dessert garnish.

Flavor Profile:

  • Flavor: Predominantly and remarkably sweet, with the thick rind providing a burst of sugary citrus flavor and the pulp adding a mild, almost imperceptible tartness.

  • Texture: Thick, tender peel and juicy, nearly seedless pulp.

  • Best Uses: The best kumquat for eating fresh and whole without the “sour surprise.“ Also perfect for sweet preserves, garnishing cakes and tarts, or infusing in liquor.
