Description

Lantana camara 'Irene' is a vibrant, heat-loving perennial prized for its non-stop, multicolored flower clusters and vigorous, mounding growth habit. This popular cultivar forms a dense, spreading mound of rough-textured, dark green, aromatic leaves that are evergreen in frost-free climates. From late spring through fall, and often until the first hard frost, it produces an abundance of rounded flower heads (umbels) filled with small, tubular florets that open bright yellow, mature to vivid pink, and then deepen to magenta or red, creating a stunning, multicolored "confetti" display on the same cluster . The nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. With excellent heat, drought, and salt tolerance, and its vigorous, spreading habit, it is an outstanding choice for sunny borders, mass plantings, ground cover, slopes, containers, and coastal gardens. Note: All parts of the plant (leaves and unripe berries) are toxic if ingested by animals (including dogs, cats, horses) and can cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals .
