Description

Radiation Lantana is a bold, upright shrub known for its vibrant, multicolored flower heads that transition from deep orange in the center to bright yellow at the edges. It blooms continuously in warm weather, attracting swarms of butterflies. Growing into a large, rounded mound, it is incredibly tough, tolerating heat, drought, salt, and poor soil. Important: The species Lantana camara is one of the world's most invasive plants. While cultivars may vary, extreme caution is advised.

  • Vibrant Multicolored Blooms: Flower clusters display a striking gradient from orange-red centers to golden-yellow edges.

  • Large, Rounded Shrub Habit: Forms a substantial, densely branched mound, reaching 4-6 feet tall and wide.

  • Butterfly Magnet: Perhaps one of the best plants for attracting a constant parade of butterflies.

  • Extreme Environmental Toughness: Thrives in full sun with virtually no care, once established.

  • Major Invasive Species: L. camara is a serious ecological threat. Always verify if a cultivar is sterile before planting.

Faqs

Q: Is the 'Radiation' cultivar itself invasive?
A: It is less fertile than the wild species but can still produce some seeds. Due to the severe risk and the availability of proven sterile hybrids, it is not recommended to plant any L. camara cultivars in areas where it is listed as invasive. Choose a sterile hybrid instead.

Q: How can I tell if a lantana is sterile?
A: Look for trademarked series names like Bandana®, Luscious®, Patriot®, or Chapel Hill Gold™. These are typically bred for sterility. Check the plant tag or ask the nursery for confirmation.
