Description

Lavandula ginginsii 'Goodwin Creek Gray' is a distinctive, evergreen shrub prized for its finely textured, silvery-gray foliage and tall, dense spikes of deep violet-purple flowers. This unique lavender forms a compact, bushy mound of narrow, linear, aromatic leaves that are subtly toothed (reminiscent of French lavender), with a soft, silvery-gray color that provides exceptional contrast in the garden. From late spring through summer, it produces long, sturdy, densely packed flower spikes topped with small, tubular, deep violet-purple blossoms, attracting bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Even when not in bloom, the intensely fragrant foliage releases a strong, classic lavender scent when brushed. With excellent tolerance for heat, drought, deer, and poor, well-drained soils, and its naturally dense, upright habit, it is an outstanding choice for low hedges (formal or informal), borders, rock gardens, Mediterranean gardens, and containers.

Faqs

Q: How is Goodwin Creek Gray different from other lavenders?
A: It is distinguished by its finely textured, silvery-gray, toothed foliage(reminiscent of French lavender) and even when not in bloom, the foliage is intensely fragrant. It is a rarer hybrid named after Swiss botanist Louis Gingins.

Q: Does the foliage have a scent even when not flowering?
A: Yes, the silvery-gray leaves are highly aromatic and release a strong, classic lavender scent when brushed, providing fragrance even outside the bloom season.

Q: How much sun does it need?
A: For the densest growth, best silvery foliage color, and most abundant flowers, plant in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily).

Q: Is it good for hedges?
A: Yes, its dense, upright habit and tolerance for shearing make it an excellent choice for low formal or informal hedges. It can be left natural or clipped and works well as a dense edging plant.

Q: How much water does it need?
A: Once established, it is drought and heat tolerant. Water regularly during its first year, then little to no supplemental water is needed. It requires well-drained soil.
