Size, shape and branching naturally vary

Description

Sea Lavender is a rugged and statuesque perennial that brings long-lasting color and exceptional drought tolerance to coastal and Mediterranean gardens. It forms a bold basal rosette of large, leathery, dark green leaves. From summer into fall, it sends up numerous, branching, wiry stems topped with dense clusters of tiny, papery, violet-blue flowers. These blooms are not only vibrant in the garden but also hold their color perfectly when dried, making them a premier choice for everlasting floral arrangements. Tough, salt-tolerant, and carefree, it thrives where other plants struggle.

  • Profuse, Long-Lasting Purple Blooms: Produces abundant, branching clusters of tiny, papery, violet-blue flowers from mid-summer well into autumn.

  • Excellent Everlasting Cut Flower: The flower heads dry naturally on the plant, retaining their vivid color and form perfectly for use in dried bouquets and arrangements.

  • Extremely Drought & Salt Tolerant: Once established, it thrives with minimal water and is perfectly adapted to full sun, windy coastal conditions, and poor, sandy soils.

  • Bold, Architectural Foliage: Forms a substantial, ground-hugging rosette of large, wavy-edged, dark green leaves that provide strong textural interest.

  • Low-Maintenance & Deer Resistant: Requires no staking, deadheading, or special care. The tough foliage and flowers are ignored by deer.

Faqs

Q: How do I dry the flowers?
A: Simply cut the flower stems when most of the tiny blossoms on a cluster are fully open. Hang them upside down in small bunches in a dark, dry, well-ventilated area for 1-2 weeks. They will retain their color for years.

Q: Does it need good drainage?
A: Absolutely essential. It is highly susceptible to root rot in heavy, waterlogged soil. Plant it in a raised bed, on a slope, or in very well-amended, gritty soil. In clay soils, it is best grown in a large container with excellent drainage.
