Description

Goshiki False Holly is a spectacular, colorful evergreen shrub that provides a vibrant, year-round display. Its small, holly-like leaves are a kaleidoscope of colors—dark green splashed with creamy white, yellow, and pink, with new growth emerging a brilliant rosy-red. This striking variegation makes it look like it's in constant bloom. It forms a dense, upright mound and is exceptionally tough, tolerating sun, shade, salt, and drought. A superb low-maintenance specimen for adding long-season color to borders, containers, or as a unique hedge.

  • Spectacular Variegated Foliage: Leaves are marbled and splashed with creamy white, yellow, pink, and green, with vibrant pink to red new growth.

  • Dense, Compact Habit: Grows into a neat, bushy, and upright mound, slowly reaching 3-8 feet tall and wide, depending on pruning.

  • Four Seasons of Color: Provides outstanding ornamental interest throughout the year, with the most vibrant colors in cooler weather and on new growth.

  • Extremely Tough & Versatile: Tolerates a wide range of conditions including full sun, deep shade, coastal exposure, drought, and poor soils.

  • Low Maintenance & Deer Proof: Requires minimal care and is highly resistant to deer browsing and most pests.

Faqs

Q: Will the pink and white colors fade in the summer heat?
A: The colors are stable but may become more muted in the peak of summer heat, especially in full sun. The most intense pink and cream coloration appears on new growth in spring and fall. Afternoon shade in hot climates can help preserve the colors.

Q: Can it be pruned into a formal shape?
A: Yes, it shears very well. Its small leaves and dense growth make it an excellent candidate for formal hedges, topiary, or bonsai. Prune in late winter or after the main spring flush of growth.
