Description

The Red Flowering Peach is a burst of pure spring joy. In early spring, before its leaves appear, its bare branches become completely smothered in vibrant, double pink blooms, creating a cotton-candy-like cloud of color. This fast-growing, small tree offers an unforgettable seasonal spectacle, perfect for adding a dramatic splash of color to sunny Bay Area gardens for many springs to come.

  • Creates a breathtaking spring display with its branches densely covered in showy, double, deep pink to rose-red flowers in early to mid-spring.

  • Grows rapidly to its mature size, providing quick impact and filling in a garden space faster than many other ornamental trees.

  • Maintains a rounded, densely branched form that is attractive even when not in bloom, with simple, glossy green summer foliage that turns yellow in fall.

  • As a true peach tree, it requires a location with full, all-day sun and excellent air circulationto thrive and avoid disease.

  • Provides essential early-season pollen for bees and other pollinators when few other plants are in bloom.

Faqs

Q: Does it produce edible peaches?
A: No. This is a purely ornamental variety selected for its spectacular flowers. Any small fruit that may rarely form is inedible.

Q: What is its typical lifespan and main challenge?
A: Ornamental peaches are relatively short-lived trees (often 10-20 years in the landscape). Their main challenge in the Bay Area is susceptibility to peach leaf curl and other fungal diseases, especially in cool, wet springs. Planting in full sun with good air flow and considering a preventative dormant spray can help.

Q: When and how should I prune it?
A: Prune immediately after flowering finishes in spring. This allows you to shape the tree and thin out crowded branches while still being able to see the structure, and it gives the tree all season to set buds for next year. Avoid fall or winter pruning.
