Description

Pennisetum spathiolatum is a graceful, warm-season perennial grass prized for its fine-textured, arching foliage and soft, foxtail-like flower spikes. This South African native forms a dense, fountain-like clump of narrow, mid-green leaves that turn attractive golden-yellow in autumn. In summer through early fall, it produces slender stems bearing fluffy, tan to buff flower spikes that rise above the foliage. Exceptionally drought-tolerant, heat tolerant, and adaptable to coastal conditions, it is an outstanding choice for mass plantings, borders, slopes, rock gardens, and containers.
