Description
Red Tip Photinia is a popular and fast-growing evergreen shrub celebrated for its brilliant crimson new foliage. Its leaves emerge a vibrant fire-engine red, gradually maturing to a glossy dark green, creating a striking two-tone effect throughout the growing season. In spring, it produces clusters of small white flowers. Valued for its rapid growth and dense habit, it is commonly used to create tall, quick privacy screens or hedges. It is adaptable and tough but can be susceptible to fungal leaf spot, especially in humid conditions, so good air circulation is key.
-
Striking Red New Growth: New leaves emerge a brilliant, glossy red, providing vibrant color in spring and after each pruning.
-
Fast-Growing & Dense Screen: A vigorous grower that quickly forms a tall, dense, evergreen barrier, reaching 10-15 feet tall and wide if unpruned.
-
Adaptable & Versatile: Tolerates a range of soils and conditions once established, and can be sheared into formal hedges or left to grow more naturally.
-
Seasonal Interest: Produces flat clusters of white flowers in mid-spring, which may develop into small red berries.
-
Important Consideration: Can be prone to Entomosporium leaf spot, a fungal disease. Plant in full sun with good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to minimize risk.
