Description

Pittosporum eugenioides, commonly known as Tarata or Lemonwood, is a fast-growing, evergreen tree or large shrub native to New Zealand. It is prized for its striking, wavy-edged, light green to yellow-green leaves that emit a strong, refreshing lemony fragrance when crushed . In spring, it produces clusters of small, honey-scented, yellow flowers, followed by small, green, oval berries. With its upright, dense habit and remarkable adaptability, it is an excellent choice for creating a fast privacy screen, a fragrant hedge, or a bold specimen plant in larger gardens.

Faqs

Q: Is it suitable for a typical residential garden?
A: Due to its potentially large size (40 ft tall and wide), it is best suited for larger properties where it has room to develop its full, graceful canopy without constant pruning. For smaller gardens, consider dwarf cultivars of other species.

Q: How drought-tolerant is it once established?
A: It shows good drought tolerance once its deep root system is established (after 2-3 years). However, it performs best and grows fastest with occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.
