The classic Yoshino Flowering Cherry is the star of Washington D.C.’s Tidal Basin, beloved for its breathtaking canopy of delicate, single white flowers that create the effect of a springtime snowstorm. Its light, airy, and gracefully spreading form embodies the timeless beauty of spring. While it prefers cooler climates, it can be a spectacular but challenging endeavor in select Bay Area gardens.

• Produces an unforgettable profusion of lightly fragrant, single white flowers with a hint of pink at the base, blooming in dense clusters before the leaves emerge.

• Grows with a beautifully rounded, spreading habit that becomes broader than tall with age, creating a perfect canopy for shade and contemplation.

• Represents the iconic image of the Japanese flowering cherry, evoking a sense of tradition and fleeting spring beauty.

• Foliage emerges bronze and transitions to green, with little significant fall color.

• Note: Requires a significant winter chill and is best suited for the coolest microclimates of the Bay Area. It may struggle and have a shortened lifespan in warmer inland zones.
