Description

Thymus serpyllum 'Coccineus' is a popular, evergreen ground cover prized for its dense, mat-forming habit, aromatic foliage, and profuse crimson-pink summer flowers. This low-growing woody perennial forms a tight, spreading carpet of tiny, oval, dark green leaves that release a pleasant, herbaceous thyme scent when brushed. In cooler weather, the foliage often takes on attractive bronze to purple-red tones. In early to mid-summer, it becomes covered with clusters of small, two-lipped, tubular, vibrant deep rose-pink to crimson flowers, creating a spectacular, long-lasting floral carpet that attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. With excellent tolerance for light foot traffic, drought, poor soils, and deer, it is an outstanding choice for between stepping stones, rock gardens, slopes, as a lawn alternative, and in containers.
