Description

Amethyst Falls American Wisteria is the most compact and well-behaved choice for smaller spaces. This native vine has a moderate growth rate and produces shorter, fragrant lavender flower clusters. It is ideal for training on a post, a small arbor, or a fence where the massive size of Asian wisterias would be overwhelming and difficult to control.

  • A compact, non-invasive native vine with a moderate growth rate, typically reaching only 15-25 feet. Perfect for smaller gardens.

  • Produces shorter (4-6 inch), fragrant lavender-purple flower clusters in late spring, with possible scattered repeat bloom.

  • Excellent for containers or small-scale structures. It is much easier to manage and integrates well into a pollinator garden.

  • The best choice for those who love wisteria's look but have limited space or want a low-maintenance native option.

Quick Facts

  • Features:Foliage: Pinnately compound leaves with narrow, oval, pointed leaflets that are bright green, turning yellow in fall.Flowers: Fragrant, lavender-blue, pea-like flowers in moderately sized, slightly loose clusters. It is notably less vigorous and more manageable than Asian wisteria species.

Faqs

Q: Is the flower show as impressive as the Asian types?A:The individual flower clusters are shorter and less pendulous, so the "waterfall" effect is less dramatic. However, for its size, it provides a charming and proportionate display without the management headaches.
