Description

Acer macrophyllum, commonly known as the Bigleaf Maple, is a majestic, fast-growing deciduous tree native to the Pacific Coast from California to British Columbia. It is named for its exceptionally large, palmate leaves—the largest of any maple—which can reach up to 12 inches across and turn a beautiful golden-yellow in autumn. In spring, it produces pendulous clusters of small, fragrant, greenish-yellow flowers that are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, followed by distinctive, winged seeds (samaras). This broad-canopy tree is a cornerstone of native woodland gardens and thrives in deep, moist soils with ample room for its expansive root system.
