Q: How does it differ from the species Tatarian Maple?
A: Rugged Charm® is a superior cultivated variety selected for its more uniform, symmetrical rounded habit, denser branching, brighter and more consistent red fall color, and potentially better resistance to leaf scorch in dry conditions compared to the variable seedling-grown species.

Q: Are the red samaras (seeds) messy or invasive?
A: The samaras are showy and ornamental, turning from green to bright red in summer. While they will eventually drop, they are not considered excessively messy. As a cultivated variety, its seed viability may be lower than the wild species, but any seedlings that do occur are not known to be invasive. To prevent any potential self-seeding, the samaras can be enjoyed for their ornamental value and then removed after they turn brown if desired.
