  • Renowned for its compact, spherical, artichoke-like form of thick, blue-gray leaves.

  • Extremely cold hardy (down to 0°F / -18°C), one of the hardiest agaves.

  • Very slow-growing and monocarpic after many decades.

Faqs

Q: How big does it get and how fast does it grow?
A: It is a slow to moderate grower, eventually forming a rosette 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Its slow growth and manageable size make it ideal for containers and smaller garden spaces.

Q: Does it die after flowering?
A: Yes, like most agaves, it is monocarpic. After 10 to 30 years, it will send up a towering, branched flower stalk (up to 10-20 feet tall) and then die. However, it typically produces offsets ("pups") around its base throughout its life, which can be left to form a colony or removed and replanted.
