Description

Popcorn Maritime California Lilac is a stunning, low-growing evergreen shrub prized for its exceptionally profuse display of pure white flower clusters in spring, which resemble mounds of fluffy popcorn. Its dense, mounded habit and small, dark green, leathery leaves make it an excellent, drought-tolerant groundcover or low bank stabilizer. It is exceptionally well-suited to coastal gardens, thriving in poor, sandy soils and resisting deer.

  • Profuse White Spring Blooms: Covered in dense, rounded clusters of fragrant white flowers that create a spectacular "popcorn" effect.

  • Low, Mounding Groundcover: Forms a dense, compact mat, typically 2-3 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide, perfect for slopes.

  • Exceptional Coastal Hardiness: Thrives in sandy, well-drained soils and tolerates salt spray and wind.

  • Extreme Drought Tolerance: Once established, requires little to no summer water.

  • Low Maintenance & Deer Resistant: Requires no pruning and is generally avoided by deer.

Faqs

Q: How much sun does it need?
A: Full sun is essential for the most prolific flowering and compact habit. It will become leggy and flower poorly in shade.

Q: What soil conditions are best?
A: It must have excellent drainage. It thrives in sandy, rocky, or gravelly soils and is ideal for slopes. Avoid heavy clay or overly rich, moist soils.
