Description

The Japanese Blueberry Tree is a large, elegant evergreen tree, valued for its clean, polished appearance, reddish-bronze new growth, and small white flowers. It makes an outstanding specimen, street tree, or tall, dense screen for large properties, offering a more refined and tree-like alternative to shrubby laurels.

  • A substantial evergreen tree with a dense, conical to oval canopy of glossy, dark green leaves that exhibit attractive reddish-bronze new growth.

  • Provides a very clean, formal appearance with minimal litter, making it an excellent choice for streetscapes, entryways, and patios.

  • Grows rapidly when young and can be used to create a very tall, evergreen privacy screen or windbreak.

  • More drought-tolerant once established than many broadleaf evergreens, though it appreciates occasional deep watering in dry periods.

Faqs

Q: Are the fruits messy or edible?
A: The small, dark blue fruits are ornamental and may be eaten by birds, but they are not considered a significant litter problem for humans and are not typically consumed.

Q: How much space does it need?
A: As a large tree (40-60 ft tall, 20-30 ft wide), it needs a prominent location in a park, large lawn, or commercial landscape. It is not suitable for small residential yards.
