The Wayne Roderick Seaside Daisy is a celebrated California native perennial, perfected for the garden from the coastal bluffs. It forms a low, spreading mound of succulent, spoon-shaped, gray-green leaves that are highly salt and drought tolerant. From spring into summer, it erupts in a profuse and charming display of lavender-blue daisies with bright yellow centers. This easy-care, resilient plant is a cornerstone of coastal and water-wise gardens, perfect for softening edges, spilling over walls, and attracting a parade of pollinators.

Prolific Lavender-Blue Coastal Daisies: Produces an abundance of cheerful, 1-inch wide, daisy-like flowers with lavender-blue rays and sunny yellow centers over a long period from spring into summer.
Succulent, Salt-Tolerant Foliage: Features attractive, spoon-shaped, fleshy leaves in a soft gray-green hue that are adapted to withstand coastal winds, salt spray, and dry conditions.
Low, Spreading, and Versatile Habit: Forms a neat, ground-hugging mat ideal for the front of borders, rock gardens, cascading over retaining walls, or as a lush filler between stepping stones.
Extremely Drought Tolerant Once Established: A champion of low-water landscapes, thriving in full sun with excellent drainage and requiring minimal irrigation after its first year.
Native Pollinator Magnet: The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, providing vital early-season food.

Knowing how we measure the size?

Knowing how we measure the size?

When browsing our plants, you may notice size terms such as Gallon, Multi, or Stand. These describe how a plant is grown, containerized, or structured at the time of sale — not just its height. Understanding these terms will help you choose the right plant for your space and expectations.

🌱 Gallon Size (Container Size)

Gallon refers to the size of the nursery container the plant is currently growing in (e.g. 1 Gallon, 5 Gallon, 15 Gallon).

  • A larger gallon size generally means:

    • A more established root system

    • A sturdier plant

    • Faster visual impact after planting

  • Example:

    • 5 Gallon: Ideal for residential gardens, easy to handle, good balance of value and maturity

    • 15 Gallon: More mature, provides quicker results in the landscape

Note: Gallon size does not guarantee a specific height, as growth varies by species.

🌳 Multi (Multi-Trunk / Multi-Branch Form)

Multi indicates the plant has multiple trunks or main stems growing from the base.

  • Commonly used for:

    • Ornamental trees

    • Feature plants

    • Japanese maples, olives, crepe myrtles, etc.

  • Why choose Multi:

    • Fuller, more sculptural appearance

    • Strong visual presence even at younger ages

    • Popular for design-focused landscapes

🌲 Stand (Single-Trunk / Standard Form)

Stand (short for Standard) refers to a single, dominant trunk with a raised or naturally formed canopy.

  • Commonly used for:

    • Shade trees

    • Street trees

    • Orchard and structural plantings

  • Why choose Stand:

    • Clean, classic tree form

    • Easier clearance for walkways and lawns

    • Preferred for long-term structure and uniformity

🌿 Choosing the Right Size

  • If you want instant impact → larger Gallon, Multi form

  • If you want long-term structure → Stand form

  • If you want flexibility and value → mid-size Gallon containers

If you’re unsure which size or form fits your project, our team is happy to help you select the best option based on your space, timeline, and design goals.

Quick facts
FAQs

Q: How do I keep it blooming and looking tidy?
A: To encourage a longer bloom period and prevent self-seeding (if desired), deadhead spent flowers regularly. After the main flowering flush, a light shearing of the entire plant can remove old flower stalks, encourage fresh foliage, and potentially trigger a smaller re-bloom.

Q: Can it handle inland heat and garden conditions?
A: Absolutely. While it is a coastal native, it is remarkably adaptable to inland gardens. The key is excellent drainage and avoiding overhead watering in hot, humid climates to prevent potential crown rot. It thrives in the heat as long as the soil is not heavy and waterlogged. It is generally hardy in USDA zones 8-10.
