Description

African Iris (Dietes iridioides), also known as Fortnight Lily, is a graceful evergreen perennial prized for its upright, sword-shaped foliage and elegant iris-like flowers. Its narrow, deep green leaves form neat, fountain-like clumps that bring year-round structure to garden beds and borders. From spring through fall, slender stems carry delicate white flowers accented by golden-yellow and violet markings. Although individual blooms are short-lived, new flowers appear in successive flushes throughout the growing season. Native to southern Africa, this adaptable plant tolerates heat and periods of drought once established. It thrives in well-drained soil and works beautifully in mass plantings, contemporary landscapes, pathway borders, and patio containers.
