Description

Jade Butterfly Ginkgo is a charming and compact dwarf variety that brings the ancient beauty of ginkgo within reach of small gardens and containers. This slow-growing, male cultivar forms a dense, bushy mound of uniquely cupped and ruffled leaves that turn clear yellow in fall. It is perfect for adding architectural interest and seasonal color to patios, entryways, or Asian-inspired gardens.

  • A true dwarf, male cultivar with a dense, shrubby, and compact growth habit, rarely exceeding 10-15 feet in height.

  • Features distinctive, deeply cleft and ruffled fan-shaped leaves that give it a unique, textured appearance compared to standard ginkgo varieties.

  • Provides the same excellent clear yellow fall color on a perfectly scaled plant.

  • Extremely slow-growing and low-maintenance. It is ideal for containers, small urban gardens, rockeries, or as a foundation planting.

  • Shares the same exceptional disease, pest, and drought resistance as its larger relatives.

Faqs

Q: Can I really grow it in a pot?
A: Absolutely. Its very slow growth and small ultimate size make ‘Jade Butterfly’ one of the best trees for long-term container culture. Use a large pot with good drainage.

Q: How slow is “slow-growing”?
A: Very slow. It may only grow 3-6 inches per year. This makes it a plant for patient gardeners, but it ensures it stays manageable and in scale for many years without pruning.

Q: What’s the best way to use it in the landscape?
A: Use it as a focal point in a small courtyard, plant it in a large decorative container by an entrance, or incorporate it into a Zen or rock garden for its unique form and ancient lineage.
