Description

Vanilla Strawberry Panicle Hydrangea is a breathtaking spectacle, famous for its bicolor blooms that resemble a swirl of strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Its enormous, elongated flower panicles open creamy white in midsummer, then gradually develop vibrant strawberry-pink tones from the bottom up, often displaying both colors simultaneously for a stunning two-tone effect. Blooming on strong, new wood, it provides a long-lasting, dramatic display that deepens in color as the weather cools, becoming a true focal point in the late season garden.

  • Striking Bicolor Blooms: Features very large, elongated flower panicles that uniquely transition from creamy white at the tip to a rich strawberry-pink at the base, often showing both colors at once.

  • Dynamic Late-Season Color: The pink coloration intensifies as nights become cooler in early fall, offering some of the garden's most vivid color when other plants fade.

  • Vigorous, Upright Growth: Forms a robust, upright shrub (5-6 ft tall and wide) with strong, reddish stems that reliably hold the heavy flower cones aloft.

  • Reliable New-Wood Bloomer: Flowers on the current season's growth for a guaranteed performance each year, unaffected by winter conditions.

  • Unforgettable Focal Point: Serves as an exceptional standalone specimen or anchor plant where its dramatic floral show can be fully admired.

Faqs

Q: How do I get the deepest pink color?
A: The pink develops most vibrantly with ample sunlight (at least 6 hours) and as temperatures drop in late summer and fall. More sun typically leads to more intense pink hues.

Q: Do the stems ever flop under the weight of the blooms?
A: It has very strong stems, but the flower heads are exceptionally large and heavy. In very rich soil or with excessive fertilizer, they may benefit from light staking, especially after rain.
