Description

Flaming Silver Japanese Andromeda is a stunning variegated evergreen shrub that offers a spectacular three-season color display. Its new spring foliage emerges a brilliant, vibrant red, maturing to a deep, glossy green with a distinct, creamy-white margin. In early spring, it produces dangling chains of ivory-white, bell-shaped flowers. This compact, slow-growing shrub provides exceptional interest and is perfect for brightening shaded borders, foundation plantings, or woodland gardens.

  • Spectacular Variegated Foliage: New growth is fiery red, maturing to glossy green edged in creamy white, providing a long season of color.

  • Graceful Spring Flowers: Produces abundant, hanging clusters of white, urn-shaped flowers in early spring.

  • Compact & Slow-Growing: Maintains a dense, upright but manageable size, ideal for smaller gardens.

  • Thrives in Acidic Shade: Prefers partial to full shade and must have acidic, moist, well-drained soil (similar to rhododendrons).

  • Deer Resistant & Elegant: Generally avoided by deer and adds a refined, colorful presence to the shade garden.

Faqs

Q: Why are the leaves on my Pieris turning yellow or brown?
A: This is almost always due to incorrect soil pH or water issues. Pieris requires acidic soil (pH 5.0-6.0). In alkaline soils, they cannot absorb iron, leading to chlorosis (yellow leaves with green veins). Ensure soil is acidic and well-drained but consistently moist.

Q: Does it need protection from wind?
A: Yes, it prefers a sheltered location. Cold, drying winds in winter can damage the evergreen foliage and flower buds.
