Description

Rosmarinus officinalis 'Huntington Carpet' (also known as 'Huntington Blue') is a prostrate, fast-growing evergreen shrub prized for its dense, spreading carpet of aromatic foliage and profuse light blue flowers. This vigorous rosemary forms a low, trailing mat of slender, soft, dark green, needle-like leaves that radiate from woody stems, releasing a strong, classic rosemary scent when brushed. Unlike other prostrate varieties, 'Huntington Carpet' stays less woody and maintains a denser, more uniform carpet over time. The leaves are edible and widely used in culinary dishes, herbal teas, and infusions, as well as for essential oils. From late winter through spring, and often sporadically into summer, it produces an abundance of small, two-lipped, tubular, pale to light blue flowers that are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. With its excellent tolerance for heat, drought, salt spray, deer, poor soils, and seaside conditions, and its vigorous, spreading habit, it is an outstanding choice for large-scale ground cover, slopes, cascading over walls, rock gardens, and as a low, informal hedge.
