Description

The Surdiva Blue Violet Fan Flower is a superior, compact selection of the beloved Australian fan flower, prized for its exceptionally long bloom time, vigorous trailing habit, and stunning violet-blue blossoms. This improved cultivar forms a dense, well-branched, mounding mound of small, glossy, bright green, toothed leaves, which then gracefully spill over the edges of containers and baskets . From late spring through fall, it produces a profusion of the unique, five-petaled, fan-shaped flowers in a rich, deep blue-violet, each with a striking yellow-green eye . Renowned for its heat tolerance, drought resistance, and self-cleaning nature, it is a low-maintenance, high-impact plant, perfect for adding a continuous waterfall of cool color to hanging baskets, containers, and sunny garden beds.

Faqs

Q: How is Surdiva® Blue Violet different from other Scaevola varieties?
A: The Surdiva® series is bred for a more compact, well-branched growth habit than many older fan flower varieties, creating a fuller plant with less legginess . It is also renowned for its exceptional heat tolerance and reliable, continuous flowering performance throughout the entire summer.

Q: Is this a perennial or an annual?
A: It is a tender perennial, reliably hardy only in USDA zones 9-11 . In most of North America, it is grown as a spectacular, long-blooming annual for the spring-to-fall season. It will not survive freezing winter temperatures.

Q: How do I keep it blooming so profusely all season?
A: 'Surdiva Blue Violet' is naturally free-flowering and requires very little care. Because it is self-cleaning, you don't need to deadhead it . For the best performance, plant it in full sun and provide moderate, consistent watering. An occasional application of a balanced fertilizer during the growing season will help ensure the most abundant flower display .

Q: How much sun does it need for the best flower display?
A: For the most abundant and vibrant blooms, plant in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily) . It will tolerate light afternoon shade, especially in very hot climates, but flowering may be somewhat reduced.

Q: Can it be used in containers or hanging baskets?
A: Absolutely. This is an outstanding plant for hanging baskets and containers. Its trailing, mounding habit makes it a perfect "spiller" in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination, where its stems will gracefully cascade over the sides, providing a waterfall of soft blue flowers all summer long .
