Description

Donkey Tail is a beloved trailing succulent, famous for its long, hanging stems densely packed with plump, tear-drop shaped, blue-green leaves. It's a spectacular sight in hanging baskets where its tails can cascade several feet. It requires careful handling (leaves detach easily) and perfect drainage, but rewards with a uniquely beautiful, sculptural form that is a staple of succulent collections.

  • Grows long, trailing stems covered in overlapping, fleshy, blue-green leaves resembling a braided tail.

  • Leaves are very fragile and fall off easily with handling (propagation is easy from these leaves).

  • Prefers bright, indirect light; strong direct sun can scorch it.

  • Extremely drought tolerant and susceptible to overwatering.

  • The ultimate hanging basket succulent for a porch or bright indoor space.

  • Toxic to pets if ingested.

Faqs

Q: Why are leaves falling off when I touch it?
A: This is a natural adaptation. The leaves are designed to break off easily for propagation. Minimize moving or touching the plant. When you must handle it, be extremely gentle and support the stems from below.

Q: How do I water it without making a mess?
A: Bottom-watering is ideal. Place the pot in a saucer of water for 15-30 minutes, then remove and let it drain completely. Avoid getting water on the leaves and stems.
